This is an opportunity for governors to receive information on safeguarding children in education settings, looking at local safeguarding themes, an awareness of child sexual exploitation and lessons learnt from serious case reviews and the wider governors safeguarding responsibilities within the new Ofsted framework.

Claire Heap (Education Safeguarding Officer, RBC)
Claire joined Rochdale LA in 2011, having previously worked in HR roles across different sectors for 15 years. She initially worked within the Schools HR team, providing advice on a wide range of HR matters including statutory guidance on Safer Recruitment and allegations management procedures. During this time, Claire enjoyed building relationships with schools and developed a keen interest in safeguarding, which led to her moving into the role of Education Safeguarding Officer in October 2017. Within this role, Claire provides single-agency training, advice and support to school staff in relation to safeguarding.
