Childrens Centres update

Children’s centres provide holistic services including access to integrated early learning and care, health and family support for children under five and their families.These services will be located at the heart of local communities aiming to make services more accessible to families.
The Government expects children’s centres and schools offering extended services will be co-located and offer joint services to provide a seamless service for parents and families.
Children’s centre core offer:
- Early Education integrated with childcare
- Family support & outreach to parents
- Child and family health services
- Links to local schools, extended Schools and out of schools activities
- Information to parents/ carers about childcare information services
- Encouragement and support for parents who wish to consider training and employment
Examples of services being offered in Rochdale include:
- Early education integrated with daycare 10 hrs a day, 48 weeks a year in eight Phase 1 children’s centres
- Play and stay sessions
- Playgroups
- Creche Sessions
- Toy & book loans
- Baby Clinics
- Baby Massage Groups
- Breastfeeding Support Groups
- Support with Smoking Cessation
- Advice and support with Diet and Nutrition
- Advice and support with Dental health issues
- Parent groups
- Vocational and non-vocational training courses
- Home Visits
- Safety Equipment loan schemes
- Access to speech therapists, Chit Chat groups, Parent groups
Phase 1 Children’s Centres
Newbold Centre Boarshaw Primary School Hollin Centre Furrow School Howard Street Community Nursery Derby Street Nursery School Woodland Primary School Sandbrook Primary School
These Centres will aim to provide where appropriate all example services mentioned above.
Phase 2 Centres Satellite Centres
Moorhouse Primary School Belfield Sure Start Centre Littleborough Primary School Meadowfields C. centre Deeplish Primary School Hamer Primary School Castleton Primary School Heybrook Primary School Meanwood Primary School Greenbank Primary School St Peters RC School Castlemere C Centre Wardleworth (site to be determined)
These Centres will be smaller in size and will not provide full day care on site, but will have daycare provision already available within the community. These centres will be able to provide some of the example services listed, this will be determined and led partly by the needs of the community.
