National College of School Leadership-
Succession Planning

New approaches to help teachers progress to headship more quickly are being trialled in ten pilot areas and Rochdale is one of them.

The National College for School Leadership (NCSL) is working with schools, local authorities and dioceses in ten pilot areas to help them develop their strategies to replace headteachers who will retire from the profession in the next three years.

Two leadership consultants from NCSL have been assigned to Rochdale to support schools and employers in the development of initiatives that will bring teachers through to leadership positions.  These include developing potential headteachers, deputy headteachers and middle leaders and setting up opportunities for teachers to learn leadership skills.

NCSL are working in partnership with the School Improvement team and the REAL Trust to develop succession planning in Rochdale to ensure that Rochdale schools have sufficient good quality leaders for the future.
