Outstanding Subject Leadership 2: Securing Robust Subject Self-Evaluation & Development Planning – In the New Inspection Framework 2019-20
- This is a one-day primary course for Subject Leaders, Middle Leaders

This course has been completely re-written taking into account the NEW Inspection Framework from September 2019. The Focus of this subject leader course is on providing focussed time for leaders to conduct rigorous self- evaluation linked to the NEW Inspection Framework, as well as subject specific descriptors. In addition, leaders will become familiar with the new inspection judgement categories related to:
1. Quality of Education- Intent, Implementation & Impact
2. Behaviour & Attitudes
3. Personal Development
4. Leadership & Management
5. Early Years (Primary)
During the afternoon session subject leaders will then begin to complete their subject specific action plans- with a key focus on ‘Success Criteria’ end points.

By the end of the course delegates will:
- Conduct robust self- evaluation and identify accurately the strengths and areas for development in your subject;
- Have the first draft of the key aspects of your development plan for your subject linked to the NEW Inspection Framework completed in the day;
- Develop an understanding of the grade descriptors in the Ofsted School Inspection Handbook and how they support you in promoting school improvement;
- Have secure reporting arrangements to senior leaders, governors and Ofsted.
- Use strategic school development/impact planning to set a clear trajectory for improvement in your subject, characterised by explicit success criteria and milestones;
- Be fully prepared for what inspectors will expect of schools and how to present self-evaluation and subject development planning in the most effective way.

Louise McArdle, ECM Education
Louise is an experienced Executive Headteacher, Headteacher and National Leader of Education. She has successfully led two schools, in very different contexts, to outstanding in all areas. She has a track record of achieving exceptional results and rapidly improving schools, particularly in very challenging contexts. She has worked as a Primary English and Mathematics Consultant and Adviser. Louise is also an associate and adviser for a number of educational institutions and regularly delivers training to schools on a range of issues as well as working as an assessor for educational awarding bodies.
She is very experienced in leading reviews, particularly peer reviews for triads of schools and for MAT’s. She also undertakes a range of other leadership development work including Headteacher Induction and Mentoring, Performance Management, coaching leaders at all levels, developing systems which promote staff and pupil wellbeing and advising schools on a wide range of other areas of school improvement. Her main areas of expertise include Leadership Development, Curriculum Development, ensuring outstanding learning environments, developing effective teaching and learning strategies, inclusion, meeting the needs of EAL learners and International New Arrivals (INA’s) and ensuring challenge for all, particularly more able children.
She regularly participates and contributes to a number of action research projects and academic reports, including working in conjunction with Cumbria University to develop ’tried and tested’ Growth Mindset strategies which culminated in her presenting alongside Professor Carol Dweck at the Osiris National Conference. She has recently worked with FFT and Queen’s University to develop classroom pedagogy and practice in Whole Class Reciprocal Reading strategies.

By Road: The Rochdale campus is 2.6 miles from junction 20 off the M62. Follow the signs for Rochdale town centre
By Rail: Rochdale train station is a ten minute walk from the Rochdale Campus through the town centre. It is also a Metrolink station, Manchester’s light railway system, which links Rochdale with Oldham, Bury and Manchester City Centre.
By Bus: The Rochdale bus station is approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the Rochdale campus. There are frequent bus services throughout the borough which terminate in Rochdale.
