Understanding Leadership

Part 1:

My Leadership Identity –This session is looking at the present, looking at personal andleadership values, reflecting on areas for development and gaps in knowledge.

Part 2:

What is Leadership? This session will look at the theory, consider leadership styles,identify the key features of great leadership in practice.

Leading High Performance Teams

Part 3:

Building High performance teams – an insight from elite sport led by Lee Mossop, formerinternational Rugby League player. Lee has recently retired after a successful RugbyLeague career, playing at the highest level of the game in the UK and Australia, winningthe Super League Grand Final and Challenge Cup final. He has also played for England.Lee is a true leader on and off the sporting field, and is now sharing his insight andexperiences with organisations in sport, business and education to help them to improvetheir performance.

Part 4:

Leading a high performance team - this session will look at the theory behind highperformance, and how to apply it to the participant’s context using examples from elitesport and business. They will gain a strong understanding of what motivates individuals ina team, how to set stretching goals and importantly build a feedback culture to keepcolleagues on track, celebrate success and take early interventions when problems arise

Paul Trainor, Managing Director, Positive Synergy Ltd

Paul is an an experienced leader in a range of sectors, he worked in secondary education for eighteen years in six different schools, including ten years in senior leadership roles. He now runs a consultancy business working in education, business and sport alongside having a senior leadership role in a professional sports club. 

After initially qualifying as a PE Teacher in 1998, he worked in pastoral leadership roles as Head of Upper School, Assistant Headteacher and Deputy Head Teacher roles in schools in vastly different contexts. In these roles, he developed a wide range of experiences and approaches to pastoral support, behaviour, developing middle and senior leaders, supporting aspiring leaders, raising student aspiration, achievement and careers provision.

Prior to becoming a teacher, Paul played professional Rugby League. Being in this elite environment has had a significant impact on the vision for his work as a person and leader, enhancing motivation, raising aspiration, developing and sustaining high performing teams, building resilience and success mindsets in particular. 

Paul’s consultancy business, Positive Synergy, works with individuals and organisations in education, business and sport to develop people and performance. From his experience of working with a wide range of schools, colleges, businesses and sports teams, he has a real interest in how outstanding, high performing organisations are created, led and sustained. Paul works with school and college staff across the country in areas including behaviour, pastoral support, raising aspiration, mental toughness, motivation, culture and leadership development.
