Supporting primary mathematics for TAs KS1

  • This practical course will help teaching assistants support children more effectively in mathematics lessons.
  • It also aims to improve the mathematical subject knowledge of participants ready for successful implementation of a ‘mastery’ curriculum.

 

Main themes:

1.   Progression in reasoning skills – a framework will be given to delegates

2.   Skilful questioning of children to enable articulate and confident ‘reasoning’ about number

3.   Deep learnng in mathematics – ensuring breadth and depth before acceleration

4.   Using key practical apparatus to help children reason and solve problems

Laurence Hicks, External Consultant, Sense of Number

Laurence leads an ‘inspirational’ mathematics course at the University of Manchester. Alongside this, he delivers high quality CPD and mathematics consultancy.  He is an experienced cross-phase teacher and former headteacher.

By Road: The Rochdale campus is 2.6 miles from junction 20 off the M62. Follow the signs for Rochdale town centre

By Rail: Rochdale train station is a ten minute walk from the Rochdale Campus through the town centre. It is also a Metrolink station, Manchester’s light railway system, which links Rochdale with Oldham, Bury and Manchester City Centre.

By Bus: The Rochdale bus station is approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the Rochdale campus. There are frequent bus services throughout the borough which terminate in Rochdale.
