Readiness for the new inspection framework

  • Audience: Headteachers and Curriculum Leaders

Ofsted’s finalised framework for September 2019 marks a significant change in the way in which schools will be inspected, with the ‘deep dive’ into a selection of subjects as the lens through which to view curriculum intent, implementation and impact.

This session will look at the issues for schools in preparing for inspection and in using the new framework to inform self-evaluation.  It will look at the implications for subject leaders / heads of department, their line managers and heads.  Rather than surveying the curriculum research that has now been in the public domain for some time, the session will focus on the practicalities for school leaders, drawing on the experience from inspection so far under this framework.

Whilst the focus will be on the curriculum, this session will also provide an opportunity to consider inclusion issues in the inspection framework such as patterns in movement out of school.

Please note that this session is specifically for those schools expecting inspection in the 2019-20 academic year, and will be an opportunity for schools to work together on their readiness and preparation, including modelling the activities that will take place on inspection.  Further details will be provided to those who register about the things to bring on the day.

David Barter, Senior Performance & Achievement Officer (Rochdale Borough Council)

Dave Barter has been a community governor of a primary school and a staff governor of a secondary, as well as having had responsibility for governor services on two local authorities.  He has been a senior leader in two secondary schools and two LAs, and has extensive training experience in topics as diverse as IT in education, e-safety, performance management, use of data, and writing a SEF/SDP.  He is currently Rochdale Council’s Senior Performance & Achievement Officer.
