Safe Working Practice

Working through the guidance ‘Safe Working Practice for the Protection of Children and Staff in Education Settings’ updated in October 2008 by Schools Service and issued to all Education Staff. This is an opportunity to discuss a set of statements with colleagues in order to determine what is classed as ‘Safe Practice’ for professionals.

*The certificate for this session will include the 2 aspects of training undertaken*

 

Educational Visits

This session is aimed at Teaching Assistants and support staff who are assisting on educational visits and off-site activities.The aims of this session are:

  • To develop an understanding of the role and responsibilities of Teaching Assistants and other adults on educational visits
  • To raise safety awareness and control
  • To develop the skills necessary for maximising teaching and learning opportunities
  • To put the role in its legal and educational context

 

During the session, we will look at the educational context of organising off-site visits with children and young people, the legal framework, competence, risk management and emergency procedures.

David Scourfiled & Claire Heap (Rochdale Borough Council)

Dave has been Educational Visits Adviser in Rochdale for the past 13 years, and is currently also contracted to Bury Council, to provide advisory services for both. He has also delivered training across a number of neighbouring Local Authorities. Prior to that Dave was a teacher for 12 years and he has also worked in various outdoor centres instructing adventure activities. He has experience as a development tutor at a management training company in the North. Dave is committed to using the outdoors as an educational tool, using real experiences to develop understanding and learning.

By Road: The Rochdale campus is 2.6 miles from junction 20 off the M62. Follow the signs for Rochdale town centre

By Rail: Rochdale train station is a ten minute walk from the Rochdale Campus through the town centre. It is also a Metrolink station, Manchester’s light railway system, which links Rochdale with Oldham, Bury and Manchester City Centre.

By Bus: The Rochdale bus station is approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the Rochdale campus. There are frequent bus services throughout the borough which terminate in Rochdale.
