DSL Annual Training Conference 2022 (Face to Face)

  • Refreshments available from 8.30pm for a prompt 9am start
  • Places initially limited to 1 per school
  • Audience; Designated Safeguarding Leads
  • The conference is free to attend to all Rochdale schools and those that subscribe to REAL Trust

This advanced level safeguarding training conference is offered as a mechanism to support the statutory requirement for DSLs to attend training relevant to their role every two years.  KCSiE states that “ Training should provide designated safeguarding leads with a good understanding of their own role, how to identify, understand and respond to specific needs that can increase the vulnerability of children, as well as specific harms that can put children at risk, and the processes, procedures and responsibilities of other agencies, particularly children’s social care.”

The conference content will include:

  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a school designated safeguarding lead in line with safeguarding legislation and current statutory guidance.
  • Reflections on our local safeguarding landscape and the shifting sands in demand, complexity and trends impacting vulnerability post-pandemic.
  • Building solid foundations for a safeguarding culture.
  • Improving the quality of our multi-agency safeguarding work, including referrals, CP conference reports and participation, utilising professional disagreement and escalations protocols.
  • Implementing lessons learnt from children’s safeguarding practice reviews.
  • Understanding how Ofsted are inspecting safeguarding.
  • National and local safeguarding themes and topics.
  • Sharing good practice and building networks between schools.

We are delighted that Nazir Afzal OBE will be our keynote speaker. Nazir is a passionate advocate for safeguarding the most vulnerable in society, his work has provided him first-hand understanding of our Rochdale context and he currently serves as Chair at Hopwood Hall College;  Nazir Afzal Official Website.

The morning sessions within the conference will be attended by all delegates. After lunch, delegates will be offered a choice of workshop sessions, in order to give DSLs the opportunity to tailor their learning experience to their own areas of development and/or interest. Workshop details will be provided to delegates prior to the conference date and preferences will be requested.

As the conference is taking place in person and to ensure all schools have the opportunity to attend if they wish, bookings will initially be limited to an allocation of 1 delegate per school. In the event that there are additional spaces available, further places will be advertised.
