An Exploration of the Role, Context and Deployment of Teaching Assistants - POSTPONED

  • This course is designed for TAs new to the role or for TAs who have not undertaken much current CPD. It is also particularly suitable for newly engaged TAs who are participating in apprenticeships schemes .

This Course will offer participants an opportunity to consider their daily role, routines and the context in which they are working. It will encourage and support TAs to consider how they can continue to develop their understanding of the role, and to build and improve their professionalism and credibility in the classroom. It will also raise awareness of the requirements of the role and its potential for future development and career progression and help participants to actively engage with and to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding.

TAs would benefit from attending this training as it it based on content in the current National Occupational Standards and qualifications framework (RQF) and on the most recent research by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) into the role and impact of TAs.

It will provide an ideal opportunity for participants to evaluate their progress so far and to engage with a knowledgeable tutor with a long standing track record of training and supporting Rochdale schools with TA development. It will also provide an opportunity where TAs can ask questions and share with peers to broaden and increase their understanding of the role and its many requirements.

Jane Walton, External Consultant, The TA Advisor

Jane Walton is known to most Rochdale schools and their staff, having been responsible for developing and managing training and qualifications for RMBC support staff, in both Adult Education and the School Improvement Service from 1998 to 2013.

Jane is now a free-lance trainer, developing and delivering bespoke training to schools around the North-West, West Yorkshire, the Midlands, and occasionally abroad.

A key feature of Jane’s work is in supporting CPD leaders as they find their way through the qualifications frameworks and access training and development that ties in coherently with their school development plan requirements. Her focus is on developing the “professional persona” of all support staff enabling them to view themselves as co-professionals with teachers and to have confidence in their role, context, responsibilities and abilities to enable and empower pupils to enjoy, achieve and succeed.
