Teaching reading with the children that need the most support

The session will provide the opportunity to discuss assessing individual children’s reading skills to identify strengths and barriers to strengthening their reading skills.
The session will then suggest a range of practical approaches and strategies to support children as they develop their reading skills.

I currently work as a SEND Quality Assurance and performance lead, part of my role is working with a range of services to quality assure EHCP’s and to work with stakeholders to gather views and collect and share feedback. Prior to this my background is teaching in primary, I was a SENCo for a number of years and completed the NASENCO award. I also did a 1 year secondment as a SEND advisory teacher for another local authority. I have always had an interest in SEND and wanting to make a difference for children and young people with SEND. This continues to be my drive today.
