Handwriting for Year 6: Securing Fluency for Extended Writing and SATs

  • This practical face-to-face course is designed for Year 5 and Year 6 teachers and teaching assistants who want to strengthen pupils’ handwriting fluency, stamina and presentation in preparation for the demands of upper Key Stage 2 and beyond.
  • Participants will explore effective strategies to support pupils in developing a consistently joined, legible and efficient handwriting style that enables them to focus on composition rather than transcription.
  • The session will examine common barriers to handwriting fluency, approaches for targeted intervention, and opportunities to embed handwriting practice meaningfully across the curriculum.
  • With a focus on extended writing and readiness for Year 6 assessments, attendees will leave with practical classroom activities, intervention ideas and assessment guidance to help pupils write with greater confidence, speed and accuracy.
