Leading Primary Geography

  • This 3 session online course has been developed to support geography subject leaders to create a fresh, motivating and relevant Primary Geography curriculum.
  • This busy programme is packed with approaches that will help you to lead your subject confidently and is an opportunity to get together with other colleagues interested in primary Geography.
  • In addition to exploring the primary Geography curriculum and the other factors we should consider when it comes to curriculum making in Geography, we will take some time to share some engaging Geography teaching ideas too.

Leading Primary Geography 1: 13/10/26 (1530 for a 1545 formal start and through to 1730) - Curriculum making

Leading Primary Geography 2: 23/2/27 (1530 for a 1545 formal start and through to 1730): - Geographical Skills - We consider the geographical skills that cover: vocab, graphicacy, enquiry, maps, critical thinking and fieldwork. We will be sure to share a few activities that you can use with children to develop their skills and you will undertake a short fieldwork exercise.

Leading Primary Geography 3: 25/5/27 (1530 for a 1545 formal start and through to 1730): - The role of the Geography Subject Leader - We will explore your own journey as a subject lead for Geography, what the role entails, your subject leader file, resources and ways of reflecting on your subject. We hope also to have time to share a starting point for considering progression in primary geography.

Nell Seal, The Learning Partnership

Nell Seal is a fresh air fanatic who loves to spend time outdoors. She has worked the last 18 years in environmental and outdoor learning, including managing an outdoor centre, as a consultant to the Geographical Association and as an advisory teacher for Norfolk County Council.

Armed with a BSc, a masters in Ecology and a PGCE in Secondary Geography, she’s is not scared of a good geek out with a quadrat! Nell is now a freelance consultant specialising in facilitating CPD training in the areas of learning for sustainability, outdoor learning and primary Geography. Nell has been a PGQM moderator for 4 years.
