Governor Training - The Equality Duty and Disability

  • This course provides a look at the requirements of the Equality Act, its development and how it relates to schools when making provision for pupils with ‘disabilities’.
  • It supports boards and leaders in making decisions that are appropriate for the needs of their disabled pupils & ensuring the school acts in their best interests when making reasonable adjustments.
  • You will engage in discussion & consider your understanding and current practice around SEND provision for pupils, what this means & how you undertake your duty to ensure reasonable adjustments are made to allow full access to learning & participation
  • You will understand how decisions you make and some standard processes in school have in the past and still can lead to unintentional discrimination.
  • You will be actively involved in activities to consider how we make reasonable adjustments for pupils in school and how we can remove barriers to participation for all groups of pupils.
