Educational Visits Advisory Service – Staff Supporting on Expedition-Style Visits, Statement of Competence Certificate

  • Designed for school staff supporting or accompanying walking groups in lowland terrain on expedition-style visits.
  • Explore your role, responsibilities, supervision expectations, and safe practice whilst working alongside a qualified leader or National Governing Body (NGB) holder at school or via an external provider.
  • Practical discussion around route planning, group management, emergency procedures, equipment, map and compass use and supporting young people in the outdoors.

Ideal for teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and volunteers involved in educational visits which include an expedition-style element. This session is a great starting point for those who are looking towards gaining their own NGB qualification.

At the end of the session, delegates assessed as competent will receive a Statement of Competence Certificate valid for 18 months, to help support participation and delivery of school expedition-style visits, under the appropriate supervision from someone who holds an NGB at school or whilst using an external provider.

Optional add-on: Stove Use Competence Certificate, a short practical session around safe stove use which can be delivered to staff at the end of the main session.
