REAL Trust's Annual Leadership Two Day Conference 2022 (Face to Face)

Dave Whitaker will open the conference Thursday morning with his session 'The Kindness Principle – How do we use kindness as a principle to develop relational culture and manage behaviour?'. 

Dave is Director of Learning for the Wellspring Academy Trust. As a former Executive Principal of SEMH Special and Alternative Provision academies, he now works regionally supporting 28 schools across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. He is a National Leader of Education and leads Positive Regard - the trusts behaviour training and outreach team. Positive Regard work nationally supporting schools with behaviour training, drawing on years of experience working with the most complex and vulnerable of children. Based on an ethos of ‘unconditional positive regard’ Dave believes schools should use relational practice to make them safe and caring places to learn. 

Dave has recently been a member of the DFE’s Timpson Exclusions Review expert reference group, he is a founder member of the HeadTeachers' Roundtable think tank and is a trustee of The Difference. He is a regular speaker at conferences and an active campaigner for educational change. His new book, The Kindness Principle is published by Independent Thinking Press. 

His session will look at the following:

  • Cultural Positioning - how we use values to build school culture
  • Unconditional Positive Regard - the power of a relational and human centred approach
  • Acceptance & Empathy  - why use a relational approach?
  • Carrot and Stick - intrinsic or extrinsic motivation - relational or behaviourist 
  • Schools as emotional safe places to be - a bit about the brain and polyvagal theory
  • Your legacy - what does your school do and why does it do it?

 

Thursday afternoons session will see Richard Gerver explore the perception of change, and why so many of us find it so hard, so exhausting and so demoralising. Richard, author of the number one bestsellers, Change and Simple Thinking, offers a ground-breaking look into how the world is dealing with the challenge of unleashing human potential and embracing and leading change in the most uncertain of times. A former globally renowned and life changing school principal, has taken innovation by storm.

Over the last two decades he has transitioned his global reputation for leadership in education and is now regarded as one of the most original and authentic thinkers around human leadership and organisational transformation in the world. He has been named UK Business Speaker of the Year three times. His time now sees him work with organisations at the forefront of global innovation and excellence including Microsoft, Deloitte, Google, TUI and Morgan Stanley, Visa, Puig, Telefonica and Technicolor. He has also worked with some of the world's most iconic retail organisations including Harrods in London.

During his session ‘Finding the spaces & taking control’ Ricahrd will share insights into what we can do to feel empowered and energised, drive the agenda, feel proactive and ultimately, lead sustainable cultures of development.He will talk about the importance of collaboration, authenticity and curiosity as key drivers. He will share insights from not only education but some of the world’s most dynamic organisations and inspirational people and how they have found strategies that put their people first.

 

Jamie Peacock MBE will close the conference on Friday morning with his two part session 'Champion Teams Talk & Be A Champion Wellbeing'.  Jamie's dedication and discipline honed over the course of his rugby career has been instrumental in developing his recipe for personal success. He played over 550 times over 19 seasons including 49 caps for his country which he captained for 8 years. At the end of his career in 2015 he had become the most decorated player of the modern Super League era winning a total of 9 Grand Finals, 4 Challenge Cup Finals, 4 World Club Challenges; as well as being selected in the Super League Dream Team 11 times, the World 13 twice and Worlds’ Best Forward twice. In 2011, he was awarded an MBE in recognition for his services to the game.

As well as working in commercial for the Leeds Rhinos and for the BBC, Jamie now runs a number of successful different enterprises ranging from Health & Wellbeing programs for students, a motivational talk entitled Champion Teams in which he covers 12 aspects in 3 areas of Self-Performance, Leadership and Team Collective that enable a team to become champions and finally he runs a Building Champions mentoring program that drives high-performance and builds strong, lasting leadership habits, companies to have used this program include, HSBC, NHS, McDonalds, O2 and Sky Bet.

He is also now a keen endurance runner, having completed 4 Marathons and 2 Ultra Marathons the furthest being a 52 mile double Marathon round London. All of these have been completed to raise money for a number of different charities including MND, GreenHouse Sports Project and Sue Ryder Hospices, with over £150,000 being raised including a 100 mile run in under 24 hours round London

‘Building Champions’ is Jamie's mentoring programme based upon his No White Flag Key Note Talk’s principles of success. It covers the 12 principles in 3 different pillars that enable a team to be high performing by being your best a individual, leaders and as a collective.

'Be A Champion Wellbeing' is an interactive session with take away tips to improve your Wellbeing in the 4 pillars of a Positive Mindset, Sleeping Well, Eating Healthily, Physical Activity.
