Delivering Music (particularly notation) with confidence (Face to Face)

  • Aimed at all primary teachers and co-ordinators (non-specialists in particular), the aim is to help give teachers the confidence to deliver music, particularly the tricky curriculum requirement to teach notation.

It will be a hands-on practical session where methods and resources will be shared and participants will be given ideas to adapt activities to their own setting - whatever the size or resources of their particular school - whilst taking into account the challenges of delivering music within a very tightly squeezed curriculum.

Helena Drumm, Meanwood Primary School

A music graduate, Helena has been a string teacher for over thirty years and has been a curriculum specialist teacher for over twenty, working both for music services and within schools as a coordinator.

She has taught in many different settings, including small schools, and has written tailored schemes and skills progressions for several of them. She knows the challenges faced by non-specialist teachers and has delivered training to include a challenge to read/play simple notation in five minutes!

She believes in the Henze quote ‘there is no such thing as an unmusical person’ and wants to help others to develop their confidence and skills in delivering music.
