The Role of the Primary NQT Co-ordinator (NQT Co-ordinators Only)

  • This session is for all NQT Co-ordinators in Primary Schools. The session will cover the statutory obligations of schools and Local Authorities regarding NQT induction and the induction regulations.

It will clarify and explore the specific roles of Headteachers, NQT induction mentors, governing bodies, HR and Local Authority officers for the induction of an NQT.

As well as the statutory obligations, the session will provide advice, guidance and examples of good practice in Rochdale schools. There will be sample pro-formas, exemplars of completed forms, and an opportunity to network with colleagues who work with NQTs in other schools.

Peter Owen (School Improvement Officer)

Peter has worked for Rochdale for more than 20 years, as Teaching and Learning Consultant, Secondary National Strategy Advisor, 14-19 Consultant and School Improvement Officer.

Prior to that, Peter was Assistant Headteacher and Head of English at an Oldham Secondary School for 15 years. Peter’s current areas of responsibility include statutory assessment and moderation, ECT induction, SACRE, Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 transition, Headteacher appointment and Performance Management, leadership development, governor training and preparation for Ofsted.

Peter combines a detailed knowledge of Rochdale schools with a commitment to raising standards for Rochdale children.

By Road: The Rochdale campus is 2.6 miles from junction 20 off the M62. Follow the signs for Rochdale town centre

By Rail: Rochdale train station is a ten minute walk from the Rochdale Campus through the town centre. It is also a Metrolink station, Manchester’s light railway system, which links Rochdale with Oldham, Bury and Manchester City Centre.

By Bus: The Rochdale bus station is approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the Rochdale campus. There are frequent bus services throughout the borough which terminate in Rochdale.
