Make Outdoor Learning Fun - Natural Textiles and Dyes

  • This session looks at practical hands on activities to inspire children to think about the past

With reference to the industrial revolution and the importance of the textile industry in Rochdale this session looks at practical hands on activities to inspire children to think about the past. Concentrating on the cotton and woollen industrial heritage, activities involve simple weaving, felting and print making.  All activities can be easily adapted for children of all ages within school grounds making learning fun. 

Curriculum link: Science (seasonal changes, heritage values and plant properties) history: (industrial revolution, past lives) Art & Design: ( use of diff materials, properties, creativity)

NatureEd CIC is a Community Interest Company working in an agreement with Rochdale Council and offering a wide range of dynamic environmental education activities from an education base at Hollingworth Lake.

Judy Alderson & Jude Murray are Directors of NatureEd CIC and freelance environmental educators. Judy also works part time as a Countryside Ranger for Rochdale Council and Jude is a sessional instructor with Oldham Outdoor & Environmental Education Service.

These CPD workshops are a chance to share our knowledge of hands-on eco-activities and our expertise as Level 3 Forest School Practitioners.
