Governor training – Understanding your schools Inspection Dashboard Summary Report

  • In this session, you’ll learn how to read and understand the IDSR, identify key strengths and areas for development, and use data effectively to support strategic decision making.

Esther Logue, School Improvement Officer, Early Help & Schools, Rochdale Borough Council

I qualified in 1998 and have been a class teacher, subject leader Deputy Head teacher and Head teacher.  I also work for the DfE and STA on KS1 and KS2 test development. I have marked KS2 SATs for a significant number of years and I am currently one of the assistant marking programme leaders for KS2 GPS.  I joined Rochdale School Improvement Team in 2004, where my initial role was to work with schools in developing their IT and use of new technologies.   In this role, I worked with many schools and subject leaders across the borough. Subsequent to this, I worked as a teaching and learning advisor with responsibility for English.

As a serving primary headteacher, I understand the rewards and challenges that sit alongside the running of a school. I have been part of three successful Ofsted inspections including moving one school from RI to Good.  This experience enables me to offer advice and support around school leadership, curriculum and inspection preparation.

As a local authority moderator manager at KS2, and moderator at KS1, I’ve have the opportunity to work with some brilliant class teachers.  One of the most rewarding parts of my advisor role, was working alongside teachers to develop English curriculums which inspired and engaged both staff and children. For a number of years, I designed and delivered a Gifted and Talented writers course for Year 6 and year 2 children. It has been a privilege to see the children’s confidence and skills in writing develop over the years.

I am passionate about reading, writing and communication and ensure that I keep up to date with the most recent developments in the primary curriculum.

I believe the best model for school improvement comes from a collaborative approach which empowers school leaders to make the best decisions for their school and children. As a School Improvement officer, I would offer the advice of a critical friend within the context of the whole school and college approach to mental health.
