Rosenshine’s Principles in Action - Retrieval - daily, weekly, monthly review

  • This training aims to empower educators with a comprehensive toolkit based on instructional principles, fostering an environment that supports improved teaching practices and, consequently, enhanced student learning outcomes.

NB. In order to get the most from this training suggest staff have access to copies of Rosenshine’s Principles in Action Workbook by Claire Grimes and Tom Sherrington’s Rosenshine’s Principles in Action books. These can be purchased from Amazon for approx. £5 and £10 each.

 

By the end of the course colleagues will be confident in:

  • Clear Instruction - emphasis on providing clear and explicit explanations of new content.
  • Teacher Modelling - demonstrating concepts and skills for students through effective modelling and worked examples.
  • Guided Practice - providing opportunities for pupils to practice new skills with guidance and support.

By the end of this session you will:

  • Complete activities 1 – 6 in Session 4: Daily, Weekly, Monthly Review of Rosenshine’s Principles in Action workbook.
  • Introduced to different review strategies that can be used in the classroom.
  • Develop an understanding behind the principles of retrieval practice.
  • Identified techniques of retrieval practice that you can use in your classroom.
  • Understand the importance of pupils using precise vocabulary and terminology in the classroom.
  • Reflected on how well you currently do retrieval practice and where you might be able to improve.
  • Identified the key takeaways, any key actions and areas that you may need more support with.

ECM Education

ECM Education Consultants are a well respected and reputable educational training and consultancy company, established in September 2010. The three directors John Evans, Phil Choi and Mark Mullin (ECM), completed their second headships in July 2010, having had extensive experience in education as Head Teachers, School Improvement Partners, Local Authority Advisors, Ofsted inspectors and NCSL Consultants. ECM Education Consultants and associates work alongside school leaders and staff to provide a wide range of bespoke guidance, support, coaching and training opportunities through our Leadership Partner role. ECM Leadership Partners will work with leaders to identify the school’s needs and implement strategies to improve school effectiveness and pupil outcomes.

ECM can work with schools to co-design a consultancy day or package based around the school’s own identified needs, and offer support and challenge for schools through the validation role of the Leadership Partner. This may include:

  • making accurate judgments through supportive self- evaluation;
  • identifying a bespoke strategy to improve pupil outcomes;
  • supporting the implementation of school improvement plans;
  • validating school's own judgements;
