Oracy in Secondary Science
- A national oracy framework has been part of the curriculum review and in secondary science this will support students to deepen learning and thinking.
- This session will explore how oracy is currently embedded in science teaching and learning and where there could be opportunities to build science staffs confidence and students skills in lessons with practical applications.

To have explored research around developing oracy to support thinking and learning in secondary science.

Victoria Rigby, STEM Learning PDL
I am an enthusiastic STEM Education consultant working from early years to ‘A' level in a variety of settings, engaging pupils, teachers and industrial/business partners in professional learning. Throughout my career, I have held many roles from an advanced skills teacher, senior leader in schools, local authority adviser and part of a national school improvement team with national strategies.
My work takes me across the UK supporting leaders and teams to develop outstanding STEM education as well as writing and delivering ongoing professional development materials for national organisations.
Other projects in education and industry have been many and varied - cross phase transition projects, supporting outstanding STEM provision across community groups, developing local science fairs, industrial placements as well as writing and leading science specific and careers in STEM CPD. More recently, I have been building capacity for teachers in SEND settings to improve their confidence and ability to deliver STEM curriculum across subjects and adapting national curriculum for learners with diverse needs.
