Communication and Teamwork for Support Staff (Developing your professional persona)

  • The target audience for this course is all support staff and in particular Teaching Assistants and lunchtime supervisors but other support staff roles in school are welcome too

This course has been developed to support Teaching Assistants and other Support Staff in schools to establish themselves as fully functional members of whole school and classroom teams. It is based on the ethos of developing and enhancing professional credibility in support roles so that all school employees can trust, understand and respect the roles of one another and work more effectively together on behalf of the whole school. It will explore the basics of how to work together with professionally qualified teachers and other professionals with whom they need to communicate and liaise on a regular basis. TAs/Support Staff are often advocates for pupils in our schools and can often be a useful conduit between teachers and pupils, teachers and parents and often their colleagues across the wider school too. This course focuses strongly on developing effective skills to be and remain professional at all times and in all situations in order to ensure that relationships in schools develop positively and develop effectively for the good of all stakeholders in the school community.
