Young People, Transitions and Creativity

  • Explore how creative activities can support children and young people to navigate transitions such as starting a new school, arriving in a new area or moving from childhood to adulthood.
  • Lunch will be provided at the start of the event.

The event will start with a series of short presentations including:  

 

Challenging Changes

42nd Street to deliver a short presentation introducing the theme of ‘transitions in childhood and adolescence’ with a focus on how periods of change impact mental health and wellbeing.

 

Our Voice

Freelance Theatre Practitioner, Emma Rucastle to deliver a short presentation on an autobiographical digital drama project that took place in Lancaster with young women of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community.

 

Arts for Induction

Cartwheel Arts to deliver a short presentation introducing the resources that they have created for use in in primary schools to support children who have recently arrived in the country.

 

Home. Perspectives

Culture Co Op to deliver a short presentation about an exhibition and accompanying engagement activities coming to Rochdale in June 2024 which will include work by 17 Ukrainian artists who offer distinct ways of seeing and thinking about Ukraine.

 

After the presentations there will be time for conversation and networking before a practical Circus Skills workshop with Skylight Circus Arts. In this hour long workshop we’ll explore how practising circus skills can support wellbeing, confidence and communication skills during periods of transition.

- Connections with local artists and cultural organisations who can deliver activity in your school

- The opportunity to develop your creative skills and gain confidence in delivering the art and design programmes of study

- Information about free resources and activities that will support increasing your pupil’s cultural capital

- Space and time to connect with others, reflect on your work and gain inspiration
