Traveller Achievement Network Meeting

  • An opportunity for practitioners to network, share good practice and discuss innovative steps forward to ensure that Traveller pupils make progress and achieve well. We will cover:
  • Barriers to Traveller Achievement
  • Good Practice and Success Stories – What’s working well?
  • Data and LA CAT (Local Authority Child Assessment Tracker)
  • On-Site Learning Facility
  • School self-evaluation
  • Networking

Travellers are the lowest achieving ethnic minority group of pupils in the UK. Families can be hard to reach and parental engagement is difficult to facilitate. Progress for these pupils is often slow with below expected attainment achieved. There are many factors and barriers which contribute to a lack of achievement for Traveller pupils – this session will explore these factors and offer some strategies to address them. The session will also offer an opportunity for practitioners to network, share good practice and discuss innovative steps forward to ensure that Traveller pupils make progress and achieve well in school. We will explore barriers to achievement for Traveller pupils and discuss the On-Site Learning Facility based at Roch Vale Park Travellers’ Site in Rochdale. We will also have the opportunity to feedback on a new initiative to support schools tracking in-year attainment for Traveller pupils. The meeting is suitable for any member of staff with responsibility for whole school Traveller achievement (Senior and Middle Leaders, Teachers, TAs, Inclusion Leads, staff with responsibility for vulnerable groups etc.) or any practitioner who may be taking on this role in the future.
