Governor Training - Speech, Language and Communication – what governors need to know
— Speech & Language
More primary school children have speech, language and communication needs than any other SEN – that remains constant year on year. As they move from primary to secondary, the SLCN need often presents as a social, emotional and mental health need.
The implication of so many children and young people with SEN having difficulties with communication and language is huge. The ability to communicate and use language to both learn and enjoy daily life is crucial.
On this course we will explore why some children find it challenging to understand what is said to them and to talk. We will share how schools are provided with practical ideas to help children learn to listen, understand and speak.
We will explore what is in place for schools to help children and families address this need and explain the role that governors can play in improving SLCN monitoring and outcomes for children and young people.
