This course will explore the range of resources and programmes which support pre-handwriting skills. Handwriting development begins to take place well before a child ever picks up a pencil.
As well as developing the physical writing skills including grip, a child needs to have acquired posture and strong core muscles.
This course will give practitioners tips and ideas on creating a supportive environment both indoors and out, to fully embed these skills.

Governor Training - Speech, Language and Communication – what governors need to know
— Speech & Language
More primary school children have speech, language and communication needs than any other SEN – that remains constant year on year. As they move from primary to secondary, the SLCN need often presents as a social, emotional and mental health need.
The implication of so many children and young people with SEN having difficulties with communication and language is huge. The ability to communicate and use language to both learn and enjoy daily life is crucial.
On this course we will explore why some children find it challenging to understand what is said to them and to talk. We will share how schools are provided with practical ideas to help children learn to listen, understand and speak.
We will explore what is in place for schools to help children and families address this need and explain the role that governors can play in improving SLCN monitoring and outcomes for children and young people.

— Early Careers Teachers (ECTs)
The teaching of phonics is now strongly embedded in early literacy teaching in schools, and it has been shown to be an important part of becoming literate.
This course will help practitioners understand and plan for early literacy skills as part of their direct teaching, as well as creating a supportive literate environment both indoors and out.
Practitioners will gain a knowledge of a range of activities which support phonological awareness – aspects of language such as rhyme, alliteration and oral blending and segmenting.
