Governor Training - Poverty and Disadvantage

  • In this course, governors look at some of the most recent statistics around poverty and disadvantage and identify some of the elements in their own settings that may contribute to a rise in numbers of pupils living in poverty locally.
  • You will understand the difference between, poverty, disadvantage and vulnerability and draw connections between them, linking understanding to your own circumstances and settings.
  • You will explore how yours and others’ perceptions can heavily influence the way you / your staff behave and the impact this can have on students.
  • You be introduced to resilience as a process and identify ways in which you can nurture and develop this.

What makes a good EHC needs assessment application and when to apply for one

  • The session is an overview of the Code of Practice to develop understanding of the difference between the spirit of the code and the statutory framework it outlines.
  • We will walk through the EHCP process from the Child/Parent, Teacher, SENDCo and Local Authority perspectives in order to enhance the quality of EHCP applications.
  • To support this we will also discuss the effectives of the school’s graduated approach to put the EHCP application in context of SEND provision that is reasonably expected according to the spirit of the Code of Practice and its background in the Lamb Enqu
  • Delegates will come away with example issues to avoid when completing their EHCP request process to help support improved approaches linked to the school’s assess, plan, do review cycle.

  • We hope the sessions will enable you to keep on top of these developments and help to inform your subject leadership role and classroom planning.
